Queue Points is proud to present part 3 of our Country music series featuring Mike “Big Mike” Bryant. We had so much more ground that we wanted to cover so Big Mike is back to help us unpack the impact of Black musicians on Country music. There’s so much to cover, and we only scratch the surface.

For this episode we land on the amazing Amazon documentary For Love & Country. The film, directed by Joshua Kissi, features Black musicians revolutionizing Country music by being exactly who they are. The Queue Points crew dive in, and discuss the film and its implications.

This episode of QP Science 3000 features the phenomenon of the white girl rapper. That's right folks, it's a thing that happens on occasion to varying degrees of success. For this episode we feature Betty Boo, Tarrie B., Fergie and Iggy Azalea. 

The term blue-eyed Soul was coined in the mid-1960s, and referenced white artists that performed Soul and R&B music. The music industry has a long history of repackaging Black music (originally referred to as “race music”) for white consumption - oftentimes with the Black artists making less than their white counterparts for songs they originated.

By the 1970s, white artists such as Teena Marie, Bobby Caldwell, Average White Band and others were making the rounds on Black radio, and Black folks couldn’t get enough. Tune in as we discuss some songs by non-Black folks that Black folks love.

For our opening segments we will be catching up on Queen Latifah’s “All Hail the Queen” making it into the National Recording Registry and DJ Sir Daniel and Jay Ray will share one album, they think one another should take to a desert island.

Venture into the heart of music history as we explore 'Love to Love You, Donna Summer', the poignant documentary co-directed by Summer’s daughter Brooklyn Sudano. Summer’s accomplishments include an incredible 16 #1 Billboard Dance hits. DJ Sir Daniel and Jay Ray discuss the documentary, Summer’s career and lasting impact of her legacy.

Before that, the two discuss a range of hip-hop topics from Kali’s new single “Area Codes,” “Billboard’s Top 50 Hip Hop Groups,” and three rap songs with Disco origins.

Also, DJ Sir Daniel shares his favorite songs featuring orgasms.

As part of our year-long #HipHop50 celebration, and to close out #BlackMusicMonth, Queue Points is going down memory lane to discuss the impact of the timeless Black youth coming-of-age film House Party. They are joined by special guest Jordan Clark, a comic book writer and co-host of the podcast White People Won’t Save You. The fellas discuss the impact of House Party on hip hop culture, highlighting its representation of teenage life and high school expectations. They analyze how the film broke through as a landmark mainstream movie for hip hop, leading to the release of other successful films in the era. They offer their thoughts on the movie's historical context, the characters, and their impressions of the recent movie reboot (Spoiler Alert: they don’t like it). 

The lively discussion explores the significance of House Party in black teen cinema and hip hop culture, making it a must-listen episode for any fan of the movie and its impact.

Community is important, and during the pandemic it was even more important. Michael Ward and Joshua Henry Jenkins founded BLACK, GAY, stuck at home as a way to engage the community around film, and the impact has meant so much more. The two joined us for a much larger discussion, but this is them talking a bit about their work.
